Madrid Encircled: Battle of the Jarama River 1937

Publisher name:Historical Manoeuvres
Type:War
Setting:Spanish Civil War
English reviews:EZ
Press info:MADRID ENCIRCLED is a military simulation of one of the most hard fought battles of the Spanish Civil War. The game addresses operational and tactical parameters and is designed to represent combat during period between the two world wars, concentrating on the interplay between infantry, artillery, light armoured forces and cavalry. The concepts are transferrable to other Spanish Civil War battles and indeed will also be applicable to WWI/WWII simulations. The game seeks to be a valuable resource on the battle and on the opportunities and limitations of the combat arms of the time.

The sequence of play is the standard sequential process of two player-turns per game-turn, without layered interaction from the opposing player during any given player-turn. Within this standard system is a unique deterioration sub-system that addresses formation and unit effectiveness. The game offers both sides options and there is a wealth of detail in the unit types and strengths. The overriding design intent has been to make the game smooth, playable and historically accurate.

Extensive historical research has been undertaken on the initial OB, reinforcements, comparative strengths of all the units involved and the game map. The final product is comprehensive, attractive and functional.

At this stage the game is not available as the historical accompanying article is being written.
